My daily driver is an old 944, love it to bits but not so keen on fuel bills.
A friend of mine has offered me his old 1.9 SDi Polo, dirt cheap (out of guilt for selling me a duff xbox) and it returns 55+mpg no trouble.

So I go compaaaaaaaaaaaaaare for a quote.... and for reference, I'm close to 40, dont have full no claims as I was without a car for a few years and it went back to zero, live in a very low crime area, park on a driveway and my 944 is about £250 fully comp

I can get the Polo for about £325 so put that value on the website...
cheapest quote is £311, and thats with me saying i dont drive in peak times, less than 10k miles a year

How can a snotter of a car worth 300 notes, with less that 70bhp, cost so much to insure??
So i start messing around and find that if I put that value at £5000, do 15,000 miles a year, 10,000 of which are business miles, I can get the quote to just under £300

3rd party fire and theft was more expensive

whats the logic to this? is there logic to this?

It's not just about the damage that can be done to your car - it's about the damage you can do to others.

Is the Polo quote fully comp? I got some insurance quotes on a £250 Datsun Stanza (Don't ask.) £653 third party only, £140odd fully comp. scratchchin

Snotter = I don't care about my car, and thus probably don't care about what I do to it or anyone else
Third Party only = I don't care about my car, and thus probably don't care about what I do to it or anyone else

944 that you "Love to bits" = going to be really really careful.

Maybe ?

944s are loved and cared for by enthusiats who drive carefully.

Polos are abused and treated like snotters, and driven by people who don't care.

Either one can hit a Bentley or a bus queue, but try to guess which is more likely to.
