Afternoon PH

The father in law bought a LWB Sprinter 311 and while its a lovely van, it isn't quick enough for him as he does carry some weight with it. I told him to go for at least a 313 but he was too impatient to wait for the right one.

Now he's been asking me how he can make it quicker and has been asking me about these tuning boxes they do on fleabay but I have no idea how good they are. The obvious way would be to get a proper re-map for it or change what parts are needed to make it a 313 engine spec (which I very much doubt is too much to do),

Has anyone got any experience of these boxes? Anyone re-mapped a turbo diesel (especially one of these Sprinters)?

What route should he take on giving it a bit of oomph?

If it helps, its the newer shape (07 reg) with the 2.2 engine.

Cheers in advance

Boxes are a world of hurt. They fool the ECU in to raising the commonrail pressure, so it dumps more diesel in. That leads to high pressure fuel pumps going, wears the injectors, and fks up the DPF if fitted. They also add strain to the clutch and DMF due to the lumpy torque delivery.

A proper remap will raise power smoothly, and probably end up making the engine run cleaner by upping the boost a bit too.

Thanks for the replies lads

We've got the old shape 313 sprinter in our family and as vans go, it's bloody quick! This one seems a right snail in comparison

Anyone know the engine differences in a 311 and a 313? I doubt it can be much. Maybe even just a different ecu?

Ideally he'd get it mapped but I don't think he's keen on the rough prices I've given him
