Sort of what car.

My eldest son turns 17 in a few months so have been on the look out for a cheap car for him, My Aunt is selling a 10yr old 1.2 clio which has covered a massive 15k miles since new ! now I appreciate this may not be a good thing but how much do you think its worth? its a 51plate 1.2 Dynamique
Also its an insurance group 3e is that to high for a 17yr old. A couple of quick comparason sites is showing a whopping £3500.
I know its a familiar topic but search isnt working.
Anyone any better ideas for a first car with reasonable insurance quotes. ie 2k or so.

The insurance group on the Clio may be low, but it will no doubt have a high insurance loading since lots of new drivers have (and crash) cars like that.
Try getting an insurance quote on a larger car with a small engine and no image (something like a Volvo S40 1.6).
For example, when I was 19, I found that the insurance quotes for a 1.8 Ford Focus hatch were double the amount I got quoted for an identical 1.8 saloon (despite the idenitcal performance and insurance groups). Uncool/ unusual car = less insurance loading.
