I am staying at a hotel in Dorset for the airfestival and they want me to remove the car after checkout i.e. I can not keep it there for the day. At the top of the 'permit' it says my deparature time (11 am) and the phrases "failure to do so may result in clamping." I have had a look around the car park and can see no details of parking restrictions/clamping signs in site. I take that to mea that they do not have a SIA-registered company working for me. There is no on-street parking for miles and P&R is a piss take at £12. Would you chance it?

£12 compared to a possible couple of hundred and being left stranded for an hour or so waiting for someone to come and remove the clamp.....erm, yeah....risk it.

Let us know how you get on!!

Why not offer them a tenner to park the car there for the day?

Is the car park huge or constantly full? If it's always full then you're forcing another hotel resident to walk for miles, due to there being no alternative parking available. Naughty person.

Personally I wouldn't risk anything where the threat of clamping is concerned - handing over a couple of hundred of my hard earned to some shaven headed thug is not my idea of sensible.

Whether they've got signs or whatever is pretty irrelevant - that's a future matter for a court to decide should the worst happen. Your immediate problem would be getting a couple of hundred quid and waiting for aforementioned thug to turn up.

Looks like I am going to have to park at a local station and get a 5-10 min train into the centre. Stupid I know, but maybe strategic in terms of leaving via congestion road after said event...

And actually put the clamper on the legal high ground for causing criminal damage to his equipment? No ta.

If you're going to do it, you need to be able to pick locks..
