So, following on from my last thread, I've now rented a van and I'll be driving to Spain in a weeks time.

The van is a long wheel base ford transit, there's 2 drivers (including myself) and one other who will keep us entertained.

I've had a look online, but apart from the obvious, is there anything I need to consider? I've got a warning triangle, 3x high vis tops, spare bulbs (I had this when I drove to the 'ring last year) but I'm unsure if vans need any further requirements? The rental company haven't really helped in this case.

You might need spare prescription glasses if you wear them... (a requirement in some EU countries, not sure which)

Apart from that, making sure the rental company have provided you with sufficient documentation to cross borders (rental agreement, proof of EU insurance, etc) will be a high priority.

Make sure you've European breakdown cover and Euro insurance from the hire company..

I hired a van that a few of us drove to Austria In January, the clutch went halfway through the journey in middle of Germany ... Luckily I had Euro RAC breakdown cover as I found out the hire company didn't cover breakdown outside UK, even though we'd paid extra for the Euro insurance.. !!

Yes, copies of hire agreement, V5 (log book), insurance, MOT, etc.. Driving licences .. just in case

Doubt if you'll get checked on the French/Spanish border though...

I don't think rental companies will provide copies of the V5 however a suitable rental agreement should suffice

But they will provide and you will need (if stopped) a VE103 and permission to take it out of the country.

Get a big picnic style cool box, always good to have cool drinks/snacks on the move.
