Just thought I'd share with the Pistonhead collective as the red wine flows..
Having read all the " Is this a scam?" posts in the past many months with all these Oceanographers desperate to buy these cars for their families , I did wonder if I would get any of them while trying to sell my dad's car.
Well low and behold ..half an hour ago Mr Victor Collins emailed me to say he was desperate to buy the car ..tho I cant see an Oceanographer really wanting to drive a 1997 Rover 620 Auto in Nightflame Metallic ..
Anyway .. Let the fun begin .. biggrin

No, it's probably a real email. Sounds like just the car. I recently sold a knackered Subaru Forrester to a really smiley African who was going to take it back to his home country - That's exactaly what he said, I kid you not! - TBH not sure if it would have made it... but I was selling it cheap so feeling no guilt.

I had 2 "ships engineers" try to scam me when I was selling my motorbike on gumtree. Both wanted to pay by paypal. So for the second one I replied that the paypal price would be higher by £200, he responded that he could only afford an extra £150!

Hey, I'm a ships engineer and I've never tried to scam anyone. Actually, while I've got your attention, I've got a large amount of money I need to move out the country.......................

I love the fact it's always a 'normal' car. Why are they so desperate to get their hands on a ford focus 1.6 or a vectra diesel?????

I don't know, but I would speculate that a 'normal' car is more likely to be owned by someone who isn't car savvy, is not aware of the risks/dangers of buying/selling, is the type of person who just sees a car as something that gets them from point A to point B.

I'd probably assume someone who bought a ford focus/white goods car from a car supermarket would be more naive then someone who bought a specialist
