Its time to say bye bye to the Evo...and hello to something else.
Contemplating a GT-R.. BUT concerned about living with it on a day to day basis - even the main dealer said they are pretty rough and hard to maneuver when cold; plus tyres at £1600 per set..
Anyone got one? What are they like on a practical basis?

The C63 AMG coupe isn't even out yet (early Sept), but Merc offering some killer finance deals and AMG Mercs usually pretty fun to drive, and obviously rock solid reliability and user friendly.

I know I'm not really comparing apples with apples but feedback appreciated.

I've discounted the Italians, Aston Martin/911 turbo as too expensive to look after/fix, and M3 also as slightly too ubiquitous.

The other option is to forget a performance car as the winter is approaching, and buy an X6!

A nice position to be in!

I think I'd go for the GT-R from those two.

As a side note, I doubt the tyres are much cheaper on the Merc, tbh!

Do not buy an X6 please for the love of god and all thats holy.

GT-R will be faster, The last C63 AMG sounded immense though, that N/A V8 is amazing.

I suppose if you're buying from a dealer, with full warranty backup, this may not be much of an issue, but from what I can gather, GTR's are pretty costly when something goes pop..

Buy a GTR if you can get one with a warranty for the alotted time you plan to keep it, if not I'd say C63.

Friend of a friend had a GTR at the same time as an F430, the GTR over simlar miles cost alot more to run..

Chewed tyres, very low mpg & many services being the major culprits from what I heard. Although he did say the GTR goaded him into ripping it much more than the Ferrari ever did. He still owns the Ferrari though..

Out or your two I'd still have GTR. Crazy performance & looks to boot.

Went out in a friends GT-R today, absolutely incredible!

The acceleration is off this planet (also the owner of Suzuki 1000), friends who also own Aprilia 1000's raving about how similar the acceleration is to their own bikes.

Very impressive, if you can afford it get it bought!

I would take the GT-R out of those two. I was tempted by the C63 coupe but then like you say about BMW there will soon be loads of C220 diesel coupes running around and the C63 just won't look anywhere near as special amongst that lot as the GT-R does. Running costs of either would be quite high.

I'd get the AMG. GTR doesn't cost any less to run than a 911 turbo.

My experience of Mercs would put them quite easily into this bracket aswell....if not at the head of it!

Our family have had a fair few Mercs (and quite a few AMGs) ovr the years and they have been head and shoulders the most expensive cars to look after. Mainly because there is always some piece of electronics that goes wrong!

That being said, as long as you're prepared for any costs.....if it were my money, it would be going straight on the C63!!! Without hesitation!

That engine alone is worth any mechanical hassle...and then some! What a sound! cloud9

An AMV8 will be cheaper to run than a GTR on all levels, cant comment on the 911 Turbo though

What a tough place to be! On the one hand I love the GTR, but on the other the C63 is one of my favourite AMGs...

I will try and sum up what I feel the plus sides are of each car (even though I have never driven either)

GTR:

Super car looks - with all the good and bad that such looks entail, lots of attention positive and negative

Incredible pace - likely to be quicker and easier to drive fast than the C63

Loads of technology - the interior is great, loads of cool stuff on that trip computer

C63 AMG:

Subtle yet aggressive looks, much stealthier than the GTR, less "crowd pull" factor.

Engine: Sounds incredible, more charismatic than the GTR engine. I think the AMG 6.3 is one of the best engines ever made.

Interior: Less tech than the GTR but more style.

The downsides for each are largely the same. Fuel, tyres, repair bills, servicing, insurance, vandal targets etc. Sitting here now, I cannot think which I would rather take. I think the head says GTR, it looks like more car on paper, but I think my heart would lean towards the C63, simply because every time I opened the garage door to leave for work, wound the windows down and fired that engine up, I'd smile like a loon and never get sick of it!

Nissan would be the fastest car, as a feat of engineering and technology its brilliant, but the mercedes is a bit more lary, it doesnt have the security of 4WD, sounds a million times better, looks better and seems like a better quality product interior wise.

i love the gtr, and if funds are avalible i would love one,

but the noise and presence of the c63 with the beautiful yet dirty noise coming from the v8 is amazing. and i bet it would be more fun to drive rather than having the 4 wheel drive of the gtr being so amazingly grippy yet i suspect a bit boring compared to rwd.... if that makes sence.

Okay well then how about an audi R8 then if costs are an issue for you?

Supercar looks and performance but normal car running costs. I believe similar running costs to an rs4.

Or do you absolutely HAVE to have a two plus two?

Look out for a monster of an immaculate X6M at vines of Guildford (just part ex'd by a PH'er). Performance won't be far from that of the other two cars smile

You'd need winter tyres to make the best of the 4wd though.

Indeed, for a Jap car they have a reputation for fragility which you won't get from a 911 turbo.

What kind of finance deals are they offering?
