Today I saw my first XF (though they are plentiful over here) with the leaping cat on the hood.

After some googleing, apparently it is/was a facture option?

I thought it looked terrible to be honest! Didn't suit the car at all.

And, I even looked at the XF secondhand, having seen a few and plenty of pictures, I never came across one that had this...

Anybody knows it's still an option on the new ones? Is it more common in the UK?
Seems like a pointless exercise of nostalgia/heritage to me tbh.

Horrendous.

Almost as bad as them being fitted to an XK. (google it if you dare)

Fortunately, only the Americans seem to fit them to the XK/XF etc.

Bit in Quentin Wilsons motoring page in yesterdays paper,Jaguar are not allowed to fit these as it is against Euro laws but there is nothing to legally stop owner retro fitting the leaping cat.

Well, I thought I'd never say this but.

It looks rubbish. I'd never have one on mine.

I have only seen one other XF with a leaper on the bonnet and it belonged to the guy at the following link to xfforum.co.uk

The leaper can't be optioned when new, as far as I am aware, but it available as a retrofit option.

Leapers shouldn't be on any Jags later than 1969.

And funily enough, the US, the most litigious nation on earth, don't have such restrictions.

The leaping cat badge on the bootlid looks pretty dire to me too.

Worked on the really old ones, doesn't work on the new ones.. Rest of car has moved into the 21st century, let the badges do the same smile

It looks a bit odd as bonnet slopes downwards, and therefore the leaper points downwards too! Tacky and ruins the lines, IMHO.

See them often on the few Jaguars here in Munich. Seems the Germans like such trinkets.

I had an S Type diesel for a while, came with a leaper. An errant pheasant took it off. Oops.

That must be up there with the worst factory options/add-ons ever created, can't believe that is a Jag part.

Agree the leaper on the back looks horrible. I'm not into modding or debadging but if I get an XF next the badge is coming off.

It needs to be the round Jag "Growler" badge on the back end or just the Word "Jaguar"
