A friend has a 1994 Vauxhall Brava (isuzu) 2.5 long bed pickup farm hack in dire straits. The poor thing has been welded together lots of times. It is safe and still has MOT but he doesn't want to load it up with any weight for fear of snapping it in two. Its not worth spending the money on a new chassis so seeing as scrap value is high he will scrap it and get something newer.

He has been offered £400 locally and seen national ads in the farming press offering £500 for Bravas/ hilux in any condition. Being the kind of chap who is careful with his money he will drive it anywhere in the country for maximum return.

Anyone on PH know who these guys are selling them onto? Can we go direct for more cash?

I romantically believe they go to Africa to be lovingly dismantled with every part labelled, a new chassis handmade by the finest local craftsman and then rebuilt and pressed into service in community projects.

Stick it on Ebay with the word "Export" in the title.

I sold a very battered (scaffolding collapsed on it) but mechanically good Toyota van for £850 with only 5 days MOT left on it !

Bloody hell I won't have thought that would have made £500.

And its not alone look at these sold prices:

£1650 MOT failure: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Brava-Pick-Up-/...
£1450 engine blown: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EX-AA-VAUXHALL-BRAVA-DI-...
£1500 MOT fail: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vauxhall-brava-spares-re...

Something fishy about this one at £3100 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vauxhall-brava-2-5-pick-...

I can't find any that went for less - plenty of ebay listings saying "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." presumably because the exporters got there first with an offer of £500 for their "worthless" truck.

I doubt this guy is selling trucks for 1k when he says he buys any old heap for 900 "WE ALS BUY BRAVO TRUCKS WITH NO MOT OR TAX AND COLLECT MINIMUM PRICE PAID 900 YES THATS A MINIMUM " http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-VAUXHALL-BRAVA-/260...

Well to complete this tale I advertised the truck on ebay. Was bid to a good price.

After a couple of phone calls an Eastern European gent came (a very long way) and negotiated me down 10% from the ebay bid price (I expected this I suppose) and the truck collected.

I asked him and he said it would be going off to to Russia. He was picking these trucks up for £400 last year but now apparently people have got wise to the value.
