So fellow PHers I have managed to work myself into a situation whereby come early October I will no longer being doing any sort of mega mileage for work, so approx 12 miles each way and I can do a one junction motorway run or cross country. I currently have the Saab 93 2.2Tid and I will SORN that and tuck it away in case my situation changes.

I have recently bought an XJ-S as a weekender and summer car and on occasion I will take that but I am looking into something else for another daily driver.

So some inspiration is needed and the criteria is pretty broad:-

Budget £4k-£6k could stretch it a bit if I wanted.
Fuel consumption, insurance, general running costs not a major issue
Happy with anything from a 2 seater to an estate

So I welcome any and all ideas really.

ETA - I would prefer something a little on the classy side I think so as much as in some ways I like Evos and Skylines etc I like the idea of something more akin to a 545/745 BMW or S8 or some such.

Cheers,

Heppers

Love the Excel...

The M3 is a good call and I have been looking at them, I would be interested to know that for the money would I be better off trying to find an excellent E36 or go for a low end E46?

As for the AMG's a 55 is nice but in the barge thread there have been a couple of nice looking C43's too.

I think I could get a very nice 944 for the budget which is also appealing, what about a 968?

Definately get the best E36 M3 you can, the E46s for that sort of money will be trouble I reckon and the E46 can be pretty hard to run, more so than an E36 apart from VANOS issues on the EVOs. In saying that it is no longer the problem it was and can be sorted for a lot less than even a few years ago. Great cars to drive.

968s just dont look as cool as a 944 though.

On the E36, would you steer clear of the SMG? If I am honest I would prefer a manual anyway just interested to hear if the SMG is a real no no..

TBH I agree on the Pork... I would rather have a well sorted 944 Turbo if I went that route.
