At the end of this month the tax on my Chim is up so the plan is to take her off the road and spend the autumn/winter doing the little jobs i've got planned.

I will shortly be getting a little van for work but fancy another car to use at weekends and when i don't fancy the van, just a little hack to stand in for the Chim.

I've been thinking something classic maybe, cheap to insure and nice and simple to tinker on, it won't have to do mega miles etc so i think i can justify it! Budget would be around 1000-1500 mark.

I was purusing eBay and spotted a rather nice MGB GT Sebring replica and i'm a little bit sold on it.... By chance (as a result of our MGB V8 project) i've got a shed full of B parts at home and am pretty familiar with them generally...

I just did an insurance quote and it would cost me the outrageous sum of £90 a year to insure, fully comp!!

Whats not to like? Bit of retro fun over the winter, sell when the Chim is back on the road in the spring (can't see it losing much value) everyones a winner!!!

Unless you get a diesel Pug 205, I'd stick with the original plan.

Personally I think it's much better to keep a car in use all year round. They seem to prefer being "used" to "standing". Keeps all the fluids moving and stops seals settling into a fixed position etc.

The cost saving of taking a car off the road for 6 months must be tiny - and it never stops depreciating!

Can see your point but not doing it to save money as such, just don't want to use the Chim in the crappy weather, plus with the work i want to do it would be off the road for a while anyway, so taxing it would be a waste off money.
