Odd question but is there such a thing as an estate car that would also be fun on track. Currently have a tvr t350, lotus exige and an audi rs6 and for various reason I am thinking it might be time to get rid of one or even two of them. But need to have an estate car for the dogs and work. So is there such a thing as an estate car that would be genuinely fun on track?

Or on a more serious note, I would think:

E39 540i Touring
E46 330i Touring
Various Merc AMG estates
Audi RS4
Audi RS2

could all be interesting on the track?

Whats wrong with the RS6? Surely you wont find something much better than that? I know they're heavy old lumps but it must be a laugh giving it a good hoofing surely? Is it a V10 or the older one?

Audi RS4 B5 / B7.

Would a hatch do the job or does it need to be an estate?

Keep it cheap and simple !

All big estates are going to be expensive in consumables aswell as repairs.

Get yourself an E36 328i Touring chuck a grand at it for various upgrades and you have yourself a great car for around 2K that is cheap and easy to work on.

Readily available parts
New engine is £400 etc
M3 LSD can be sourced for sub £500.

Stupidly heavy and even with (auto) gearbox remap it is never in the right gear. Car is fitted with coil overs but is no fun on a twisty road never mind a track!! Brutally fast in a straight line though!!

That is the only one I can think of, if only they had made a new M3 touring

I can't imagine them being that great on a track. For the same reasons as the fat Audi.

That would depend on whether you call a straight piece of road a track... and I would suggest that it was made clear from the OP that track does not mean drag strip - and even if it did, the RS6 pretty much has that covered!!

Evo 9 Gt - estate

9 Gt was one of the very best of the Evos, incredible handling, and they even made an estate version!

They never sold the Gt in the UK but there were maybe 50 to 150 imported (many are now group N rally cars).
The estate is even rarer probably less than ten in the uk, would be a very capable track car the Gt has front and rear LSD and many other upgrades and is much sharper handling than a standard Evo.
