Guys, a colleague at work is going to France for 5 days on Friday, he is driving in his Ford C-Max (57 plate).

He can't find out where to put the masks on his headlights. Can anyone on here show/tell me so I can pass the info on?

Thanks in advance.

Where'd he get them from? The Halfords ones have comprehensive instructions. Otherwise, does his owner's manual perhaps tell him?

Should be okay, then - they come with a folded-up booklet thing in the back that shows pretty much every conceivable sort of headlight and where they should go on them. And if that's not enough, someone in the store should be able to clear up any doubt.

Tell him not to bother. The Europhiles that come here don't bother their arse, even if they've been living here for years, so why should we?

I definitely agree with this, especially as it's only for 5 days.

They have them on the ferry for £6.99. Standard rip off equipment.
The set I got had something like 400 configurations printed on a 6ft square piece of fag paper. Dead easy to fit. Do-able in the lanes waiting for the euro-star/ferry.

I have a house in France, and don't bother. On one of my cars I have tilting headlights (for those times when the car is fully loaded), and I drop them to the lowest setting if I'm on an A-road.

I don't think your dazzling lights will affect the driving abilities of our neighbours (!)

AFAIK you don't have to spend the £7 if you're staying for less than 30 days smile

As the family travels across around 4-5 times a year, they just bought a single sided sheet of the stuff, drew around one we had and bang...we now have about 50 of them for far less cash than £6.99 for a pair!

BMWs at least have a switch under the bonnet that changes the dip direction on the beam - I take it Fords don't? It'd certainly be easier than sticking bits of plastic on the headlights!

Took the Vogue to France last year for two weeks, with Xenons.

The lense covers stayed in their packaging and were never fitted.

Don't bother.

IIRC the french police used to use this as a money making scheme - fines if you didn't have them fitted.

Presumably as they now fine for the fluorescent jackets they may not bother now.

I used to just stick a bit of tape on - to show willing.

Covers? I would be gobsmacked if there isn't a switch on the back of the lamps! It's often not obvious though.

Don't know about the C-Max, but I guess it's the same as my '06 Diesel Focus:

There's a white plastic adjustment on the top of each headlight housing (with an arrow going around it moulded into the black plastic) turn that 20 times (each headlight) and your mother's brother is suddenly known as Bob.

Don't bother buying an Allen key - they're a funny size and a cross headed screw driver works fine anyway.

Be carefull with these as with the plastic lenses (head lamps) once finished with them and you remove the beam bender the glue had ate at the plastic covers and marked them, for this reason i now no longer use them, i just lower the angle in the cabin

dunno about CMAX lights, but make sure he remembers; yellow vests, V5, Insurance docs, License, FULL SET of spare light bulbs and hazard warning triangle - on and GB sticker if no. plate doesn't have one built-n.

I never bother with light adjustment or bulbs and last few times (we drive to france couple of times a year) forgot all the documentation too :|
