Whats the problem

I come up behind three cars yesterday, first car is doing 35/40 in a nsl. The road is straight and clear, perfect for either of the other cars to overtake, so I wait, none of them go (the second car was a prius so I wasn't really surprised.) The road is still straight and clear, so 3rd gear, passed them all, easy.

But as I go past the prius they half pull out behind me and start flashing there beam at me and giving it some hand signals. Was it because I wasn't saving the world? Is overtaking illegal? Did he think his beam would blind me? So many questions that I need to find answers to!
