So there I was, pulling into the Tesco petrol station in the MR2 and I'm greeted by a lovely red Ferrari California: top down, private plate, the works.

Now, it's probably just me, but I was horrified when I realised the owner was putting regular Tesco unleaded in her frown

Perhaps I just love Ferraris TOO much biggrin

are they damaged by standard 95 RON?
Must be a problem in the states

There is one round here that drives like a loon, reg has "JON" in it, I suspect he would do such a thing.

I can't see any problem with it the ECU should be good enough to adapt.

They might do every other fill or something.

I get your point. I don't think it would do any damage in anyway but I'd just think "Come on, it deserve the extra 4p/litre doesn't it" frown

Why would it be a problem in the states? They get just as high octane petrol as we do (they just use a different rating system).

Not really, given that US MON is not equivalent to European RON.

confused

As mentioned above, you'd hope your hundred-and-whatever thousand pounds buys you an ECU with knock sensing capability that can advance or retard the ignition for different grades of fuel. Otherwise how would it cope with the Crimean petrol when all those Russian oligarchs head off on trips to their summer dachas? smile

Granted, it's probably worth putting in some premium petrol every couple of fills to get the extra detergents etc. but I wouldn't say it was vital.

Maybe it's not the cost but he doesn't have the time to go searching for a shell, so just pops to whichever station is nearest.

Maybe the car is an extension of his penis and he couldn't give two sts what RON he puts in his car.

I believe all cars sold in the EU have to work with the full range of available fuels - as there are plenty of places where you don't get a fat lot of choice as to what's available???

It's not hard to build some knock-sensing capability into the system and for most people, they'll not even notice the slight reduction in urge...

I'd be more upset that he's using supermarket petrol tbh - we've had 2 incidents of local supermarkets admitting that they sold contaminated fuel recently - that's 2 more than I'd accept before using them!!

If he's using the car on a few A roads for the morning commute then IMHO premium is a waste, whereas he may use 102 RON on track days smile
