Seeing more and more of these being tastefully modded.

What gives? Alternative to RX-7s? Front ends look kinda similar.

They look great when modified, they just arn't that quick though.


The MX5 is the PH sheep crowd's baby ..... so beware of bad mouthing MX5's they might call you rude names


I have looked at them but Just arn't quick enough to really be a step up, I know they are all about corners but hey.

You can modify the oily, springy and stoppy bits to cure that problem, iirc the most powerful 4 cylinder MX-5s top 500bhp (one at the '99 Option Speed Trial went over 170mph), but 200-300bhp is only a few grand away and plenty fast enough, sky's the limit if you're prepared to spend big and go down the engine swap route, Chevy, Lexus & Ford V8, Ford Cosworth, Nissan Straight 6, Honda V-Tec, Rotary, even a Jag V12 has been done.

On paper they're not quick but some modern stuff with 200bhp, you have to drive waaaay beyond what's sensible or indeed legal speed to enjoy yourself a fraction as much as you will in an MX5 any day.

Infinitely better idea than an RX7 IMO.
