Looking to get an interesting/fun car for around £8k (could push to £10k for the right car)

It'll be my daily driver covering about 15miles each day. I want something with a bit of poke (200bhp+) and comfortable.

What I've considered so far is Jaguar XK8, Mercedes CL500 and Porsche Boxster.

Any ideas and thoughts on those 3 greatly appreciated

Cl500 has potential for big repair bills, we have a CL600 Bi turbo and insisted upon a warranty !

As always I'm going to suggest you look at a TVR Chimaera
: 200bhp +
: Comfortable
: Softop
: Fantastic Sound

CLK 430 or 55 AMG ?

Boxster S would also be a good choice, fantastic to drive and really good feel to everything.

Z4 3.0 ? Some find them Comfy some don't.

XK8's are also good cars but I find them abit cosy, test drive one and decide upon that yourself.

What kind of bills would I be looking at with the TVR? Nice car and would be an unusual sight!

M5 looks pretty good as well, had originally looked at E46 M3 but good examples seemed to run a bit outside of my price range

Very surprised with the Volvo, never thought of looking at those!

That M5 is great. Not sure I would go for the S60, far too much grief with them despite the Q car appeal. S-Type R, never knew they were so cheap nowadays, how do they hold up mechanically?

Well get yourself a sorted Chim 400 that has been wax oiled / has a decent chassis out right repairs will be minimal, obviously TVR's have a few niggles but buy a well known car I.e from an enthusiast or the like it will be brilliant.
Engine wise it's a Tried and tested Rover V8... can't really go wrong on the engine front if serviced regularly.

: This is currently my favourite Chim forsale sub 10K :

:this is even better being wax oiled etc more miles but 2K less :

With regards to E39 M5's I personally Love them, BUT you have to be prepared to throw upto 3K at it if need be for usually relatively minor issues.
E39 540i Manual would be 70% of the thrills with -70% of potential running costs.

Really like both of those Chimaera's definitely moving up the list

Found this E39 540i looks good but is the price too low e.g. bills right around the corner

Thanks for suggestions so far, making a hard job even harder! wink

Ideally you want a rare 540i manual sport (IMO).

-Bit better suspension
-Looks better

But faced with the choice and not needing the extra space I'd go with something with 2 doors wink

Ulitmate cruiser would be a CLK 55 AMG, Chimaera will be a fantasticly comfortable car but not a really good cruiser.... not "german cruiser" standards ... but hey it's a TVR !

You're not wrong about the 540i manual being rare had a quick search and found 1 decent example on ebay!

The more I look at the TVR the more I think I want one. I just can't make up my mind on cruiser or B-road bomber!

Wouldn't touch a Z3M coupe for under 10k.

Z3M roadster would be a decent choice for sub 10k sports car.

I personally dont like the back end of the roadster buy hey if you like it, I'd test drive a Chim and Z3M back to back to see how you get on.

At 8-10K i would be looking at either E46 M3's or S4 Avants. Both in manual flavour, great practical performance cars.
