I was just looking through autotrader at some Fiesta's (2009+) for a friend who interested in buying one.

He likes in the new ford fiesta s1600 as they look a little different to the standard zetec s model with the leather seats, white wheels and racing stripes but something caught my eye which would surely be a mistake! Insurance group 17? I mean this car has the same 120bhp engine as the standard zetec s so why is it such a high insurance group? eek

Anyone on here have any idea's why?

Thanks!

The target audience of the car might explain the insurance group.

Probably because the type of people who would enjoy racing stripes and white wheels on a Fiesta are more likely to smash it to pieces?

Probably a misprint though, what group is the standard Zetec S?

Just had a look, the 'original' fiesta zetec s is insurance group 6

His best bet is to buy a standard white one for around £2k less, get the wheels sprayed white but will have to sacrifice the leather seats.

Which set of insurance groups is this? Remember there are two lots - 1-20 and 1-50.

Edit: Looking at Parker's, the Zetec S is group 13 anyway, then the s1600 base model is 14, and the s1600 (134bhp) is group 17.

According to Parkers, the Zetec S is group 13:

After clicking on the second autotrader link, shocked is right. 10 grand for a basic fiesta - and its not even new? have I been living on the moon or is this a little ridiculous?

And possibly subsequent claims recorded against this model.

As already mentioned, probably to do with the new Insurance Groups. out of 50, rather than 20.

After showing my friend this thread i think he is going to stick to a normal mk7 zetec s fiesta. He did two insurance qoutes and found that the s1600 is actually £360 more to insure than a standard zetec s on a 10 plate with simular value. Just for some stripes and white wheels laugh

I say bring on the ST.
