Right, I just sold an XJR which I had on a classic car policy. Phoned them to cancel and they told me that there aren't any refunds on classic policies. So he told me I might as well keep the policy open until it expires in April next year.

The way I see it is i've got free insurance until next year !!

I have a tracked prepared MX5 which I could use though out the winter (don't drive that much) but what cheapish car (£1500) that would qualify as a classic could I get to get me through the winter months ?

Thought about another MX5, maybe an MR2 ? Interesting and fun and cheap to fiddle with if I have to are the criteria.

E28 BMW M535i or E30 318 iS maybe?

Alfa Romeo 33 P4 if you want something 4WD for the winter (providing you've got patience and a lot of waxoyl handy...)

On a less exciting note, you probably could get an early Impreza on classic insurance these days?

mk2 Golf GTI.

Audi Coupe a good shout, but engines are a bit of a let down apart from the 170hp 20v five they phased out in 1991 (I think).

Yes, good choice, lovely engine, whip the cat out if is is afflicted with one and have some full on Walter Rohrl soundtrack, I did on a 2.0 Audi 100, some most innapropriate noises coming from my old man type barge
and it made it a lot more responsive, honestly just get it and a decent exhaust system, not that fast but will seem it.

Is the same policy transferable to a new vehicle? I've never heard of that before. It's also not legal to have an insurance policy for a car which you no longer own.

Due to me not wanting to cut somebody up or break the speed limit; just because a speeding idiot driver has caught up and decided to tailgate whilst I was safely overtaking something else. rolleyes

It takes a dick to fk an ahole!

Alfa 164? I had an MR2 and ran it as a winter car. Never saw much in the way of snow down in devon though. Fortunately...

Really? I thought that was pretty standard on mainstream policies. I've certainly done it before when I've changed cars mid-way through the policy. The insurance company just takes or refunds a certain amount to reflect the difference in risk for the remainder of the policy.
