So you've got the daily driver and a second fun weekend/track day car, how do "you" insure them.

2 policies, traders ins or somthing else

Also how much does it cost you annualy.

2 policies. Never got any joy from multicar ones. Some places will mirror NCB.

What if I have 2 cars both taxed but one insurance policy and I swap over the insurance for a few days, would I have to sorn the my daily driver if it had no insurance for 2 days.

Whats the limit with regards to sorning for no insurance 2 hours/2 days????

It may well cost more than a limited mileage to constantly swap vehicles, as admin fees can mount up.

Also, there is no "un-sorn" - this can only be done by re-applying for tax. Which you don't want to do. Or maybe you can phone up each time.

There is probably a chance that you could SORN both vehicles, but keep the tax discs (status of these not known) and then swap the insurance back and forth. You would need to carry your insurance documents with you, as any ANPR ping might take some explaining.

Whilst it isn't illegal to drive a SORNed car, you may well have some battles with the DVLA about the validity of your tax etc etc.

Separate policy for each car here.

Was quite miffed with Admiral when I insured the Focus as they started on about multicar when they found there were 3 cars. I told him two were classics and he carried on only to suddenly say "We don't cover classics" when he found one was a modified old landrover!

Limited milage sees me paying less for an £8k Volvo with a 1.8 than my £1.5k Focus with a 1.6

I insure a VX220 with full no claims and a Mini Cooper S Cab. The VX on a Ltd mileage with Adrian Flux & the Mini with a 'mirrored' NCB policy and Mini owners club discount (Its worth 20% !!!) with Flux Direct.

I had no joy with multi-car policies. Best bet is to try to get one of the policies to mirror the NCB applied to the other.

Separate policies for each car... as above, many companies will mirror NCB on a new policy, or if you're lucky you can get the 2nd/3rd/4th car on a classic policy with limited mileage.

Get married and have the wife insure one!

I also have a mirrored policy on a motorhome. I wanted to do the same on my current car and use it at weekends and get another daily driver, but even though its now 10 years old no one would do a mirrored policy.

Its wrong really the max NCD is 9 years and I have double this so surely I should be able to split it down the middle across two policies.

I have used Admiral multicar in the past, but the renewal was always stupid. Most other insurers will give just as good a discount if you insure more than one car.

I've always insured my cars seperately but this year have gone with multicar. Listening to a lot of people I won't be with them long though.
Depending what the fun car is you could get it insured using classic insurance. I've insured my M3 and 968CS with Lancaster and they're both £300 with agreed value and my Cortina is £90 so maybe somewhere in the middle.

Isn't that called "Fronting" if she's not the main driver of the car?

Me and the gf have an Admiral Multicar policy, saved £100 overall but I have friends in multi car households where the AM quote was more expensive then they were currently paying.

If you insure both cars with Liverpool Victoria (LV) you get a multiple policy discount.
This is available if you have a household policy as well. The discount is not just for car policies.

Thet are usually very competitive as well.

That is fronting as far as I'm aware.

Wife/girlfriend as a named driver may well decrease the premium though. Legal too wink

Downside is you have to let her drive it and register it in her name. Mind you both our insurances came down when we got married anyway.

"Fronting" never heard of that one. Must be something dreamed up by insurers as a wallet-emptying phrase. When I ask for quotes there is no question of who is the main driver? All I get asked is who's NCD do I want to use on what car? Not that it matters in our circumstances its always a battle as to who drives no matter what car.
