Looking to chop the Z4 in for something more comfy as it looks as though my 600 mile per week commmute will be continuing further as my contract has been extended. Been looking at 320d type cars as plenty of E90s down to £10k levels now.

However, these Laguna Coupes have come onto the radar. Lots of toys, 180bhp and reasonable looks. Best part is though, 2 years old and they are already down to c30% of their list price!
Makes a new purchase look stupid of course, but then big+french alsways has been.

Any views on these, either this car or the particular 180bhp dCI engine?

Bit slow and dieselly. See if you can find a Pug 407 coupe with the 3.0 diesel six out of the Jaguar XF or failing that, an earlier 2.7D.

God that 407 is painfully unattractive.

The Phaeton ain't exactly an oil painting, that's one of the things that keeps these cars values low.

Is a 3.0 diesel really "slow"..?

Not exactly pretty, but for £6.5...

That 2.7 diesel isn't exactly a paragon of trouble free, high mileage service in Jaguars so combined with the usual Frenchcar "quality" I'd expect an exciting ownership experience biggrin

I'd expect the handling to be a bit rubbish, but its for commuting 120 miles a day on the A55, I can live with that. I would expect the ride to be fairly wafty though??

and 4.6m long is biggish shirley?

hmmm 4.6m isn't small is it... when I've seen them on the road they strike me as little bigger than an old Astra coupe or Fiat Coupe...I stand corrected...

here however is a damning long term review... sadly...cos it is so very pretty..

C'est domage. Was thinking of one of these as a modren replacement for my Fiat Coupe - look very similar from the front.

I had a 407 coupe for three years. They look much better in the fleash than in photos, but regardless, it's all down to peronal opinion.

Mine had electric everything, was a fantastic long distance cuiser, was extremely comfortable and never, ever went wrong. Over that time, it cost two new tyres and a £125 service. Great car and I only sold it because I needed the rear space.

Go with your first instinct and get a nice 320Cd SE (not M Sport).

The Beemer will still be good to drive a long time after the novelty of the Laguna has worn off.

No, the slow comment refers to the 180bhp Renault the OP was talking about. The 2.7/3.0d 407's are pretty brisk and un-dieselly. Nice wafters in fact with a pleasant interior, especially the burgundy red leather ones.
