Driving home in a work truck and had a sudden, catastrophic electrical failure. Truck cut out and died completely right on the approach to the Half Way House roundabout on the A128. Cars lining up behind me, everyone pulling their angry face, can't push it forward cos I'm on a hill.
Great.

Them a bloke in a Landrover pulls up, ropes us together and pulls me up onto the verge.
What an absolute gentleman!

Typically I don't have a penny on me to give the fella a drink but I have his details and I will be showing my appreciation.

Restored my faith in mankind.

Thanks matey!

Now I'm sitting waiting for the AA truck a contented man.

Typical Land Rover driver really (or at least it was before RR Sports become the weapon of choice for those purveyors of lifes more illicit subtances - particularly with blacked out windows front & rear & Kahn alloys).

Not quite so contented now. Recovery finally got here after 2 hours. They were told I was in a BMW 318 (never owned one in my life) so he couldn't tow me. They're sending another one but now it's Friday rush hour so it could take a while.

Getting hungry now, if anyone's passing could you chuck me a sandwich ;-)

Ouch. In the Ferrari? Don't the good people of Maranello sort all this crap out for you?

Breaking down is annoying.

No, in one of my work trucks. Although now I come to think of it the Ferrari recovery might apply to anything I own.
Should've gone down that route, they don't mess about.

Good grief I don't like the look of that!

Just had a call from one of my blokes "Why haven't I been paid yet?"
Can't do that till I get home, I'm not going to be very popular tonight!

Egg Mayo with lettuce and onion would be smashing mate, and any chance of a half decent bottle of red to accompany?
After all, I'm not going to be driving ;-)

I was waiting for recovery once for about 4 hours at the top of a d/c slip road before a roundabout. It was quite busy.
One punter stopped to ask if I needed help.
One, in over 4 hours.

Had one bint drive up to the rear of the car and stop for the length of time it took me to smoke a cigarette, so about 3-4 mins. Sidelights, hazards and no-one in the car and it took her that long to realize. The slip had two lanes.

I'm going to have to wander off soon and find somewhere to take a leak.
It is now hammering down and I'm in a t-shirt, nothing else to wear in the truck and I can't run the engine.
This is great fun!

Nice coda to this.
I went round to the address the fella had given me this morning with a couple of bottles of wine to thank him for towing me. He lives in a beautiful house on the river and has a couple of Morgans and a Rolls Silver Spur in the garage. I'd gone in the Ferrari so we had a long petrol head chat and a cup of tea.

Lovely man and a nice conclusion.

Good good!

I tend to find a correlation between the people who are willing to help and the 'normal people' i.e not chavs or people who drive something new and shiny (usually a RRS) who come across as being in a hurry and self important. If you get me.

Massive thumbs up to the guy for helping you out, and you for making such a gesture to thank him.

Same here, chavs seem to live in constant anger so are unlikely to help anyone. Those in shiny RRS's are roo important for lesser people since they 'need' to get to the salon/shops/meeting otherwise the world will end.

Good on the OP to return with a thank you gift! This country isnt quite as bad as I thought it was! Probably get mugged by a chav this afternoon now that I've said that.

My car is new and shiny (albeit an econobox and far from prestige hehe) and I'd stop and help - not going to be towing much unless you're on a motorbike pushbike or something hehe
