Video: Ferrari's 599 Replacement At Fiorano

'F152' test mule spotted lapping Ferrari's in-house handling circuit

It certainly won't look like this when we see it under the glare of a motor show spotlight (possibly as soon as the Geneva motor show in March next year), but this is Ferrari's replacement for the 599, spotted undergoing testing at Fiorano.

So what do we know about the new car? Well, not a great deal as yet, but it seems that the F152 (for that is its codname ) will have an aluminium monocoque chassis and will transmit its power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (most likely a relative of the twin-clutch unit used in the Ferrari 458 and California).

Oh, and that said power will come from a 6.3-litre V12 (which will hopefully sound as nice as the unit in this test mule) with around 700hp.

Are they still using aluminium? Thought that was outdated now...

Shirley that's just a 599 test mule and this is a bit of a non-story.

It`s not a race car, try making one with 3 pedals and a beautiful open gate manual gearshift!

Sounds about right. The car is too big.

I wish Ferrari would go back to making mid-engined 12-cylinder cars again. They were so much better looking.

no, it's a GT car. i wouldn't fancy a manual box in a GT car which is supposed to be fun when you want, but comfy over long distances. the double clutch boxes are a fantastic compromise between the 2 worlds IMO and the right choice for the type of car its fitted to, in this case.

How much are they going to charge for the engine bay fire at 1200 miles option?

I like being busy, I like the "procedure" of changing gear, to manually change down for a corner, for ME something is missing without it!

It`s driving for pleasure not lap times and for me that "clack" when the next gear engages in a Ferrari is a small but important pleasure.

I read that 599 production already ended a few months ago - does anyone know if this is correct, and if so, why they would leave a gap of so long without a flagship GT?

so do i. but if i wanted a big GT car for covering massive distances i wouldn't want a manual. defeats the point of what a GT car is supposed to be.

I'm with you on that one. Too many lazy people saying "but it's a GT car", they can go & buy Mercedes or Bentleys. I like the big Ferraris of old, V12 with a manual gearbox smile
