My current set on my e46 3 series had lasted 3 years and 70,000 miles! Nothing special, just whatever national tyres fitted.

My first ever car, a fiesta used to go through at least 2 sets a year! I may have driven it a little harder but not considerably and it's a lighter car!

Well pleased with the lifespan of these.

Any idea how big the lip on the disk needs to be before they need changing?

My first astravan had 111000 miles on original rear brakes and tyres both passed the 1st mot.
Second astravan was five years old had 170000 miles on it with the original pads. Both vans driven hard and fully loaded with sky dishes boxes and cable etc...

Just replaced the A5 pads & discs at about 42k, but only because the discs were getting wobbly after a spirited drive. I'm guessing the pads had about 10k left.

My Citroen C2 VTS discs and pads changed aug09 at 49k checked aug11 at 101k and about 1/3 worn on 3 pads and outside n/s pad about 1/2 worn discs about 2mm undercut. You have got a point i was changing discs and pads at about every 25-30k on my Xsara a few years ago.I wonder if the pad compounds are better now as i think when asbestos was banned from pads they went to a high mettalic compound that was very wearing on the discs.

E46 330ci

My local BMW dealer told me that all 4 pads were on their limit and needed replacing.

That was 15000 miles ago.

I think they have done 50000 or since new.

My Vw Transporter work van went 71,000 thousand on original pads.
Not bad for a commercial carrying some heavy loads.

When I had the E39 M5 my pads lasted about 100k motorway miles doing pretty much this.

Moving to a big auto, the biggest contrast was the braking and comparatively speaking, how much more wearing it is to brake against engine power. I think I will be pleasantly surprised if the brakes on the Lexus barge will do 40k.

In my 9000 I've done a set of pads every 10,000 miles so far.

The last discs that cam off had 12000 miles on them and had serious heat cracks.

I need bigger brakes grumpy

When I was a youngster I had a rather fetching Inca Yellow Dolomite Sprint which used to go through brake pads in about 5000 miles. I used to keep a new set in the glove box.

Crikey, none of you are trying hard enough, I'm lucky to see 5 digits out of a set, usually more like 6000 miles and by then I'm wearing through the metal!

Brake Later and Harder and stop being pussys!! hehe

I had a BMW 530, disks and pads lasted 100K miles, 90% motorway miles, little braking. Everything lasted forever when it was up and down the M6 at 4am and a steady 85mph.
