Got my first car
Discussion
Its a fiat punto 1.2 elx. I was just wondering what I could do to make it slightly more faster to drive.
Also I just busted my front tire, I really don't know how I did that, just looked at the car this morning and it was flat. I have no idea what kind of tires to fit either.
Help would be much appreciated

Nitrous is the easy way. When I last did this it cost me around £120.00 for valves, air fittings and pipe to get the nitrous into the engine. You could buy a kit which would cost more but would save having to apply too much thought as you'd get all the parts you want in one package and they'd all fit and work together. Could check on ebay for cheap kits. The Chinese are probably doing them now. You can use a CO2 fire extinguisher as the gas bottle. Or get a cheap gas bottle off ebay.
But if you don't want to go the nitrous route then the other possible options are as follows.
1. A clean OEM paper air filter, good oil, high octane fuel - V-power or similar, properly inflated tyres. This is the cheap and easy way to get the most out of the car.
2. Fit a megasquirt ECU and map the engine away from fuel economy and reliability and more towards best performance.
3. Fit a free flowing exhaust system, high-lift camshaft, large throttle or throttle-bodies, megasquirt ecu, custom map.
Those are all the options. But I know you’re just a kid so you’ll disagree / disregard everything I’ve posted. I’m not bothered. I just hope if I post this answer 100 times to more or less the same question as they come up then maybe 1 time out of 100 some kid will end up with a car which is a bit faster than the ones his mates have.

I'll be (sort of) helpful if noone else will.
As for making it "slightly more faster to drive", don't bother. Save the money and upgrade your car when you've earned some no claims bonus. It'll probably work out cheaper in the long run when you factor in the increased insurance premium for fitting the go-faster parts.

ked, just take it to your local tyre place and they'll fit an appropriate sized tyre. Try not to go for the cheapo 'ditch finders', though.

The first thing is that whatever you do to modify your Punto, you MUST tell your insurance company or your insurance could be void. they will reward this honesty by charging you £500 for every extra hp you claim, real or imaginary.
Now to how to make the car faster - well this is easy, you learn to drive it smoothly with maximum anticipation and minimum heavy braking - other traffic will always curtail your pleasure and until you gain experience, your skill will always let you down. Slow into a bend, safe to see out and apply power smoothly to corner at an optimum rate.
More power and more ragging and jerky progres means you will spend more on fuel, tyres and repairs without ever going any faster, I promise. Drive well, drive carefully, build your NCB, save your money and then buy something ridiculous.

I got 3 points on my licence 18 months ago. As a 20 year old male it means I'm pretty much not insurable on anything with more than 12bhp/ton. I do have 3 years no claims however, so when my points are no longer valid I will have saved up a tidy sum to spunk on some rather tasty metal.
wow thanks for all the reply's and great advice. I'l forget about making the car faster, and also ditch the K&N filters as well.
Is there any where in London that I can take my car to get tyres fitted, that's safe and wont rip me off?
Also, I have noticed my clutch seems to be very stiff. It was newly put in, but I still feel slightly worried about it, is that normal?
