Hi all,

My father recently purchased a Jeep Cherokee, blue on a 51 plate. He has come out with a gem tonight by saying that he has bought some gold alloy paint and is thinking of painting his alloys gold! When I delved further into his reasoning he came out with line of "it will look like a Subaru with gold wheels and blue paint". I also asked how he thought it would turn out as companies charge £100's for this service which he hopes to do for £20! By the way my Dad is 50 and he has already had his mid life crisis (or so I thought). Anyone have any opinions on this?

Just thought I would share this as it certainly made me laugh!

My opinion. Tell him to get a cheap bonnet scoop and then post pictures.

Refurbing/repainting alloys isn't all that hard. It's all about preperation otherwise it will look very odd having a flaking gold finish.. oh wait, it's going to look bloody odd regardless how good the paint finish is.

This should be FUN when the pics arrive or will they be heading straight to the badly modified thread?

It obviously needs the 555 graphics too. And an electronic dump valve.

He does have a point, and why has nobody mentioned the spoiler yet? (or have I missed it)

Me too, can't wait. But to be sure of the result we all want tell him that Hammerite Gold Hammered finish is the way to go...and that you must never stir it!.
Best, B

The first generation grand Cherokees with 5.2 and 5.9 V8's did.

I think some of the early Jeep Wranglers did too, seen a few in dark green with gold alloys that look pretty smart!

As others have said, repainting alloys is easy so long as you have some basic DIY ability, and do it properly.
