How old does a car need to be for classic insurance?
Discussion
Reason I'm asking is I've found a lovely 1993 Jag XJ in pretty good nick for £2.5k. Being at uni I don't have a car at the moment, have sold the Panda for around the same money, it's driving me mad not having a car, but seeing as I live very close to uni and across the road from work, it'd be pretty pointless keeping it when it costs £10 a week for a parking permit!
Thing is, having sold the Fiat, I've got nothing to get around in when I nip home every 3-4 months. I'd probably be doing <1500 miles a year, and it's an 18 year old Jaguar, so at 21 I'd come off the phone with an a
hole the size of Jupiter if I had regular insurance on it. So, would classic insurance work for me on this? It'd be pretty great when I go home at Christmas, Easter and family occasions knowing I'd be able to waft around in an old Jag for a couple of weeks. That's another reason I'd not want to insure it for a whole year at a time on a "normal" policy, there's no point when I'm just using it every now and again. I know the continuous insurance laws make this a bit of a b
h, but with classic insurance I'd imagine they only expect the car to be driven occasionally (although that said, dad has unlimited mileage on his MGB's classic policy and only pays £90 a year! That does have a lot to do with the fact he's 29 years older than me though).
So PH, what do you reckon? Should I go for it?

I always got insured this way under 25, but maybe it has tightened up recently..the only criteria I always experienced was having an insured main vehicle as well..I had a Saab 900 Turbo16S at 21 insured this way when at Uni as I was also insured on my brothers car..
regarding what cars, diferent insurers have difering criteria, some are more simple limited mileage policies really
