Just how important is colour to you when buying a used car? I get the PH thing that it is all about the mechanicals, condition etc but there are certain colours I just can't do, and others I love.

Just me, or is everyone a bit of a colour magpie?

I have a mk1 mx5. I only looked at BRG ones with tan interior.

I'm a bit of a tart, I guess.

IMO when buying used it's best to be flexible on colour and focus on overall specification/condition instead. But then if you're only looking at a Fiesta or Corsa there should be plenty available in any colour you like.

I wouldn't buy a dog of a colour though. Not only nasty to look at but, worse still, very hard to sell on when the time comes.

I like to see a bit of colour on the roads, and if I was stupid rich enough to buy a brand new car, I'd probably spec a nice metallic electric blue, or perhaps metallic red.
Unfortunately, used car buyers don't have that luxury, and consequently our household's cars are 2X silver and 1X black sleep

I had the choice between a silver or a black car. I chose the silver one purely because it seemed to drive a little better. Silver is a very boring colour, but when you are after a used car you can't be too picky.

No look at the fking colour of mine on my profile hehe

It's JRG !
But it drives great and usually puts the big boys to shame.
Will be upgrading to a less conspicuous coloured car next though ....

I've had black; hard to keep clean. Had red, needs polish to stop fading. Had a white Rover 214 in the early 90's - my cardigan years.. now have silver because the choice was limited to 5 and the thought of a dirty black barge was too much to take. Silver it is. I like silver, it hides dirt very well.

A bloke near me used to own one of those, EVERY panel was a different shade for some reason!! He claimed it had never been in an accident.

After a number of black cars, I went silver (though with red interior) but wish I'd gone back to black - just fancied a change. Had various colours I liked but there are colours which while not determining purchase, would affect the choice if choice were there.

We bought our Mondeo in a colour I don't like as it was so cheap new but over 2 years later, I still don't like it and that does affect how I look after it and I tend not to wash or polish it.

I quite fancy a Jag XJ6 but would never buy one in that pale bluey-silver and I generally avoid wishy-washy pastels and pale colours that are neither one nor t'other - the Mk 1 Focus is a good example as it used to come in wishy-washy light green and blue metallics - blech.

I would never buy a silver or grey car and I'm not keen on black or white, but otherwise I don't really care much.

I'm a fussy bugger when it comes to colour but I've not once bought a car based on colour. I always buy based on sound mechnicals, condition and a comprehensive service history full.

I'm less bothered about the outside. The interior is where I'll spend most of my time. Hence I hate black interiors as they look so boring, but will hunt out a tan interior.

The last colour I wanted was Silver after having had a silver company car and my own first car being silver. Best car I found when I was looking was bloody silver banghead

At least I can't see it from the inside.

I've got a Metallic Beige Mini. As you can probably guess I'm not too fussy about the colour.

Had a number of colours to deal with now:

-Red - fades badly, as a previous poster mentioned it needs near-constant polishing to avoid it going pink. That said, I've had more red cars than any other colour.

-White - Looks great once polished, goes dirty almost instantly.

-Black - picks up grime very noticeably.

-Silver - Supposedly hides the dirt well, but it doesn't. Fades to a dull grey when dirty.

-Light metallic blue - Best dirt-hiding shade I've found so far.

-Dark blue - there's a reason why it's known as 'doom blue' in the trade, although on a classic car with lots of chrome bits on it, when polished, it can look absolutely stunning.

That said, I wouldn't let colour dictate a buying decision unless it was something silly, like pink.
