Coming up the M621 out of Leeds yesterday and there's an Audi convertible pulled over obviously getting a bit of a talking to off Dibble.

He's been pulled over by a plain blue Vauxhall Zafira (blue strobes hidden under the grille etc) - am I alone in thinking that this is simply taking the piss, and breaking a sort of unwritten "gentleman's agreement" between the coppers and the observant driver who is "making progress"? If the police are resorting to cars like this then there is really no hope of spotting them.

I would actually feel quite affronted to be nicked as a result of such underhand chicanery - normally I regard something like a Zafira as being some kind of Mumsnet yummy-mummy chariot requesting a fly-by, but even such a trivial pastime can't be enjoyed anymore wink

Sad, sad days cry

It's sort of the point of an unmarked car, isn't it?

I disagree

We need more of this

Far to many BELLS on the road who suddenly drive like saints when they see the po-leece.

The second the said prick hits a beloved with his st driving you will see sense in this.

Puts me in mind of the Royal Navy initially despising the idea of submarines because they were "ungentlemanly". But in the end, they'd do whatever they could, seems the boys in blue have figured the same!

I wonder if the users of Mumsnet find a way of using derogatory terms for PH members in a large proportion of their threads.

Don't see the problem, that's the point of them

Saw an unmarked Hyundai Santa Fe the other week with lights flashing etc. Was quite suprised but thought it was a good thing. I've got nothing to worry about, at least. Also so an Espace a couple years ago that had pulled someone over.

How do you know it was st? Maybe it was a MID screw up related pull.

Sorry mate, unmarked police cars have been around for decades.

If you're not breaking the law, you don't have anything to worry about. thumbup

If they are pulling over the numptys we see everyday driving like tts then it's a good thing, if they are just using it to boost speeding ticket fines on empty motorways then I got a problem with it

Unmarked cars only go for people are being really stupid though. They aren't going to pull you over for doing 75mph on the motorway.

That's irrelevant, that could happen in any marked or unmarked car with the equipment.

The point i was making was not on this individual case, it was that there are too many bad drivers on the road that get caught out with un-marked cars. Police need to be more creative as everyone knows they drive around in BMW 330d's, 530d's and Skoda's and Volvo's.

I want more bad drivers off the road and that ain't going to happen as effectively with marked volvo's.

interesting topic.

my thoughts are thus:-

police fixed speed cameras (gatso, truvelo etc..) have to be painted bright dayglo yellow with reflective strips etc to conform with the ethos that they are safety cameras and not piggy banks. An observant driver would see the signs and ultimately the cameras and adjust their progress accordingly, surely the same moral argument is true of traffic cars!

That said, maybe the police are out to sneak up on you with unmarked cars to ensure that your driving is up to scratch at all times and in which case, fair enough.

Any plod care to comment!!!

I agree with what most people are saying, I think unmarked cars are a great thing and if you've done nothing wrong then you've nothing to worry about, whether it be from an unmarked pushbike or a marked Range Rover.

OP obviously not happy re plain white and black Zafiras I see everyday then.

Or how about a plain white Scania tractor unit, is that being even more underhand in catching people behaving like illegal little knobs whilst at the wheel.

Id love to see em in an unmarked veyron..... smile

No issues at all with them doing traffic stops in unmarked cars, as previously stated, they catch the "bells" driving like erm "bells" when they think its all clear.

Carry on cops.

A well driven Zafira's going to stand out like a sore thumb though.
