To be honest this is a problem with the 3 main Germany manufacturing. Both BMW and Audi can accused of producing questionable concepts. From where I stand it seems to be that BMW/MB/Audi only look at each other when it comes to the looking at what the competition are doing and all other manufactures are irrelevant.

Their main concern is trying to obtain economies of scale. This might not be so much of an issue for Audi, but this is definitely the situation for BMW and MB. To develop any additional variant based on the technology of a core product adds marginal additional fixed cost but the additional volume allows they to put downward pressure on unit costs and hopefully increase revenues and profits (seems to be the case for BMW but not so much for MB).

I agree there are too many.

It makes a mockery of the MB slogan "The Best or Nothing" A and B are certainly not the best and devalue the brand.

TBH, I am not a fan of their four cylinder engines, particularly the four cylinder diesels that sound like a delivery van? The manual gearboxes have IMHO always been clunky and do not bear comparison with anything from Ford?

If you want a MB, it should be a large saloon (or estate), multi-cylinder and automatic.

It's VW for me... Golf, Golf+, Golf Cabrio (EOS - Golf CC?), Golf estate, Touran (Bigger Golf? How is that different to the Golf+?), Touran (off road Golf), Jetta (Golf with a boot), Scirocco (Golf Coupe), Beetle (camp Golf)... how many Golf variants do we need? hehe

Volksvehicle really do need to send their marketing twonks to the Toyota School of Market Statistic Domination.

You have half a dozen different cars, you call them all just plain "Corolla" and you have the world's best selling car.

VW should call all Golfs and their derivatives just plain Golf.

As for Merc, they make plenty of pointless cars - indeed. Some are hideous beyond belief, but it's a wide varied world and one man's meat is another one's trousers. If they're selling them and making a profit, then so be it. Who are we to stop them? You don't have to buy one, or even want one!

...and some manufacturers' competing vehicles look very similar indeed?
