50-60mpg diesel, but rapid, and around the £2000 mark!

Basically guys, im going to be travelling to Cornwall, up to the top of the southwest area. Covering 4 hour journeys. Im looking for a car around the £2000 mark. Quick, because im fed up of nearly dieing because my car is slow and around the 50-60 mpg! Any ideas. Ive looked into Golf GT TDI s, they seem a very good option, any other ideas?

Define quick!

Golf, Bora or Passat TDI,

306 or 406 HDI,

Mondeo or Focus TDDI

for starters.

Passat 130 tdi is quick enough, reliable,comfy, and I often average 50mpg+

At that price point I think rapid is definitely a relative term.

Dare I throw a MG ZR diesel into the mix?

Ha ha, i guess rapid is a bland term. A passat sounds good. The mileage that i ca afford on one however seems quite high, but i guess with it being diesel and if i find one with a good history it could go on for a while!

For £2k id recommend a Pug 306 D Turbo ... this one looks pretty good and well in budget
