Wanted winter tyres, which size 225 50 17 or 245 45 17?

Hoping to pick up a set if 8x17 wheels for winter

Need to source tyres. Think oem on these were 245 45 17, but I know 225 50 17 would also fit and be similar rolling circumference

I'm looking down used part worn and then new, but which is the more popular size or any reasons to go for one size over the other?

The narrower the better for winter tyres, so they can cut through the snow. Go for the 225/50 I reckon.
