PH help request - Anyone in Leeds want some beer tokens?
Discussion
As a result of these threads ( http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... , http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... ) I have found a car that sounds good in Hunslet, Leeds.
As with all adverts and car dealers, they aren't always as good in the metal as on paper though. I'm in Glasgow, so it's a bit of a trek...
Is there anyone near to it who wouldn't mind dropping past the dealer for a quick nosey around it in exchange for beer tokens please?
Cheers

Just managed to have a quick shufty,
Overall car looks pretty good. Dunno how fussy you are, but it looks alright. No cracks in the lights, 4x new continental tyres, disks look good, interior looks tidy (through the window!), panel gaps fine.
Bad points, front passenger wheel has scrape, rear passenger side wheel has peeling lacker, rear passeger side rub strip has been crudely glued on (its on though!) and the rear drivers side quarter has had paint. Oh and the drivers seat has wear on the bolster. Usual wear.
Dunno how helpful that is, its worth a look for the money i reakon.

Thanks for stopping in
I have spoken to the dealer again. Apparently they do not have a service book, but do have the recent receipts for cambelt, aux belt, waterpump, new clutch, new key,and the 4 Continental tyres. The car was taken as a trade in on a diesel. The past owner was being crippled on insurance costs, due to his age.
At the window price of £1395 they will service it before it is sold, and replace the back box which is blowing. Still sounds ok to me.
Yeah no probs, nowt worse than traveling to a badly described car!!
Forgot to mention a small dent on the bonnet near the passenger side water jet - only small not really noticeable. With those reciepts, if it drives well, the lack of a service book wouldnt bother me.

Based on what the dealer has told us and what you have seen, I think it's a good deal.
I have told them that someone (16v stretch) is coming tomorrow to check for noises/ clunks/ bangs, see it starts ok, and have a nosey under the bonnet. Assuming all is ok, I will pay them a deposit over the phone, have the full service and exhaust done on Monday, and I will collect Tuesday.
Fingers crossed

A few cosmetic marks are to be expected after 8 years and 72k miles. I'm not terribly picky about these things, which is good considering the miles I do.Forgot to mention a small dent on the bonnet near the passenger side water jet - only small not really noticeable. They have now found the service book, with the last Peugeot Dealer service stamp at 55k. It wasn't a worry to me really, but nice to have for whenever I sell it on again.
I'm not really worried about having a Cat D car, as long as the price reflects it's sale value. If a Cat D car only gets 2/3 of the price of a typical non cat D car, then this is overpriced at £1395 it would seem. There was no mention of the insurance status in the ad, or in any conversations with the dealer. It also has had 7 owners, and I can't help but think what else might they be hiding?
In comparison: This one is 3 owners, no HPi issues, and a genuine service history for the 110k miles. At £1100 it looks better value, with the down side being some body marks which I would like to see before going further.

I've already put a post up looking for someone in Peterborough/ Spalding area - Fingers crossed Lincolnshire folk are as helpful as the PH'ers from Leeds

Have you informed the dealer that you now know the car was Cat D all along? I'd mention it to him, just to see what he can do for you. They'll either put the phone down, or offer you quite a good deal on the car. Either way it's worth a try. I don't understand dealers like that, all the hassle it would cause if someone bought it and found out at a later date, for the sake of a few hundred quid.
