Just looking idly on Autotrader and happened across a sub 30k 2008 saloon. 3.7 litre petrol engine, decent kit and understated styling that I quite like.

An Infiniti.

I am not someone who goes with the crowd if I like something, though I do own an MX5, but I just know if I bought one my BMW running mates would be very critical.

What's not to like about what is basically a posh Nissan? it's got the engine out of the 370 I guess, and comes from the same company that makes the GTR.

Maybe not premium, but exclusive perhaps. I've not seen one
the metal.

Sound so good? smile

To be fair the biggest problem will be that badge snobbery, although lots of people won't have a clue what it is, so that might not be so much of a problem.

Infinitis are (correct me if I'm wrong) designed for the American market primarily, so may not offer the same kind of ride/handling compromise you'd get with a BMW (or even and Audi or a Merc...).

Would be different, just don't expect massive residuals...

What's not to like? Nothing from what I've seen & heard. Makes a nice change from a BM. I even reckon it would give less potential problems too than a BM, Merc etc. If you like it go for it.

I've seen lots of infinity cars in the US, and they are very nice.

I'm not a badge snob though, i buy what I like rather than what the neighbours will think.

My mates got a G37 cab. Ir is indeed running the 370Z engine but is no worse off for it as it goes very well. Interior is a bit plasticky but that's par for the course with Japanese cars. It's very well made but he did have a gearbox issue that took it off the road for two weeks. Still they put him in another Infiniti during that time and were very good customer service wise.

Infinity produce great cars if you can live with the Jap feel and the styling - more akin to Lexus than anything else. There is nothing American about the way they drive.

Mate of mine in the US is on his 3rd or 4th Infiniti.

The one I went in (sorry can't remember the model) was very Lexus-like in terms of interior styling, but less wallowy.

I'd certainly have a look if the price was right and servicing didn't look like it would cause headaches.

They certainly are a premium brand. Well, back in the UAE they were.

Their biggest seller was probably the FX50 which is a beautiful machine on par with a Cayenne. I seem to remember seeing more FXs than Cayennes.

There's also the QX56 which, again over there, appeared to have sold better than the Range Rover.

The G37 was a pretty rare sight but they're a great looking car.

The reason? There's a common believe that Jap cars are considerably more reliable than their European counterparts which in my opinion is rightly justified. European cars simply can't handle the extreme conditions over there. Jap cars just don't break.

Thanks guys. Some food for thought there.
