or will a car port do?

Going to see a house that has a longish (25ft) but thin (11ft) garage. I have 2 cars that are currently garaged - a 2000 Boxster and a Midget as well as my XT500. As it happens the total length of my 2 cars is 24ft 6inches and I could even fit the bike alongside the MG (MG is less than 5ft wide) but it would all fell a bit cramped once the tools etc were in. I'd rather keep the MG and bike in the garage, have space for tools and work bench etc and put the Porsche under a car port to protect it from sap / droppings / snow etc. Would I notice a deterioration in my Porsche's paintwork? Would it be more likely to corrode? It is used regularly all year round anyway.

Thanks

If it is used all year round anyway than I can see it making a massive difference to the paint -especially if that is kept sealed with a high quality wax.
The only thing I would question is the longevity of the soft top and general dampness inside the cabin a garage would be invaluable in this respect.

If you are using the car all year round it's probably better off under a carport than in a garage anyway unless it is thoroughly dried before being parked up.

Thanks Arthur. I did leave outside and unused for several winter months a few years ago and you are right - there was some dampness in the car - mould on the inside of the roof - when I went to get it. It had spent several weeks under snow at the time. It will be used weekly so the heater / air con might stop it getting damp inside?

I wish my garage was 11ft 'thin'!

That would leave over 2 feet of space either side of my car, or 4 feet if I parked over to the left.

Absolute bliss. wink

Porsche brakes are notorious for rusting easily, but if as you say, you'll be using it regularly through the year it shouldn't be a problem. There has been plenty threads elsewhere about how easily the brakes have been condemned on porkers, but it seems like most of these are from people who have just washed it then left it for a couple of weeks sitting doing nowt. Other than that, I don't see there being any other issues.

Of course I could and probably am wrong.

Obviously keeping it in the garage would be better - things will rust on any car and a garage, especially a dehumidified one, will help quite a lot.

However, modern cars are designed to put up with being kept outside. It's not going to fall appart.
