Why would a 2002 car have a dateless plate?
Discussion
Have been to a see a car today and it's got a dateless plate (LLLNNNN) which is odd given it was made in 2002.
From the hpi it was given this from 1st registration but I would have thought it would have had a 02 or 52 plate. Typiclay the service history and books are not there either.
Any ideas?

Someone had the plate on retention and used it to register the car when new instead of having a new plate allocated.
You can register any car on a plate older than the car but not newer than the age of the car ie you can't have an 03 plate on an 02 car.
You can take the plate off and put it on retention and sell it and the DVLA will give tou a relevant 02/52 plate FOC.

Because that makes the car appear older than it is. But you couldn't put a prefix style T plate to a 1992 car.As I've always understood it, this is because you may be representing the vehicle as younger than its true age for pecuniary advantage, which is both unfair to the buyer and considered fraud.

There's a chap lives near me with a Ford Focus (so 1998 onwards) with a G reg plate. Doesn't look like a private plate but if you read it a few times and try to make out what it's saying, looks like he likes a game of golf.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
