Went online this morning to change my car as I've sold the Alfa frown and as the freelander is not MOT'd it was time to get it back on the road. Later this afternoon I decided to check all was OK only to discover it wasn't!

This morning, deciding not to use a big red telephone, I went onto the insurance website, logon, click amend vehicle details, put the new car details in, put the swap over time as 11.30am and it tells me I can have a refund smile Click a few more buttons to confirm and it tells me that everything is okay, my monthly payments will be reduced and after 11.30 the new details will show on the system.

Off I drive the father-in-law with the Alfa for just before 11.30, he's buying it and already has it insured. Daddy-in-law drives me to my mate's garage where my freelander is stored and I'm back on the road driving home by 1pm.

When I get home I thought it was a good idea just to check and find that the website is not updated with the freelander. I phone up the suggested contact number. What follows is the most frustrating 45mins of dealing with an insurance company ever. Yes they have my quote on the system for the freelander, no it's not live and I should be paying an increased premium! confused Told I need to dial another number for internet issues - explain this is the number I called. Insist that the guy sorts this out as I potentially am not insured on a car I have been driving about in! Eventually he gets the message and speaks to quite a few people until one of them finally admit there does appear to be a problem!

Thing is I never thought of printing the confirmation out. Working in IT I should know better! biggrin

But what could have happened if I'd not checked? They have agreed to cover the freelander until Monday morning, which is no fking use as I've got to be at work on Monday and I was told they were doing this as a favour. How can these insurance companies get away with this?
