Hi folks,

I can't seem to find any information on this anywhere. My photocard driving licence expired a couple of weeks ago as I forgot to renew it. I've now renewed it via the DVLA website but it'll still take 2-3 weeks to arrive. The website clearly states that I can drive whilst I wait for the new licence to arrive. But the trouble is, I was planning on driving to France before then, but now I'm not sure I'll be legal if I don't have a physical licence to take with me.

Do I have to have a physical licence with me to show police over there if I get pulled? I'd have thought definitely yes, so that scuppers my holiday plans... But if anyone knows different then please let me know!

Thanks

You need to have your photocard licence and counterpart to drive legally. Sorry.

ETA What are the chances of being pulled, and considering you are a licensed driver, what is the fine for having no docs?

I can't find any details about the on the spot fines for this type of offence, but the speeding fines going up to 750 euros sounds a bit steep!

Don't know if if this is relevant or not but I renewed a lost license a few weeks back & it came through the post within a week, so you might be lucky.

If it doesn't I personally would still drive in France but obviously take the paper part of the license & all other docs including the print out of the confirmation email from the dvla.
