Ever experienced "Marque Rivalry" ?

Coming from Imprezas chased by Evos and other Chav mobiles i decided to switch to a more mature BMW 3 series for daily driving..
However i feel like getting tailgated mostly by Mercedes drivers, now is that me or did someone else experienced "Marque Rivalry" ?

Bloke in a BMW 330ci was upset when my snotty Volvo t5 complete with (empty) child seat in the back overtook him on the new bentley straight on the snetterton 300 the other day - then proceeded to over do it trying to catch me round the brundle/nelson complex

Not on the road in the real world, but certainly on forums! Subaru vs Mitsubishi, MR2 owners claiming they're better drivers than MX5 owners, etc...

Dont know if its the same thing but everyone hates me in the renta-bmw, where as in the Clio nobody cares. I drive them both the same way (not particularly fast) but get endless abuse in the BMW for seemingly no reason So jealous of my not very fast, not even mine, really quite boring BMW estate. Weirdos.

I have come to the conclusion that no-one cares about my scruffy old 5-series.

I don't get tailgated, I do get let out at junctions, I don't get cut up on roundabouts.

Maybe I'm getting the sympathy vote.

In my experience it's just because Mercedes drivers tend to be knobs

My ST24 used to attract Vectra SRI drivers into some sort of blind rage.

Nowadays i just end up duelling other diesel rep-mobiles and taxi drivers.

BMW-v-Audi is very common (and I've experienced it when driving both). When I had XJ6's I got loads of problems from most other 'prestige' marques.
However, when driving the Cerb I'm amazed at how rarely I get tailgated and how often people on m'ways or DC will pull over to let me pass!

I get that too... I'm still unsure which it is. Seems to be more of a problem for Audis than BMW's or Mercs though.
