Surf's Up At Citroen

Tubik concept makes us dribble for a Scooby snack

If you can’t help liking the odd van, you’ll love this – it’s the new Tubik concept by Citroen.

In the grand tradition of custom surf vans, the Tubik takes an old nail – in the case the horribly corrugated H5 – and updates it with smooth new panelwork and ‘muriels’. Oh, and a distinctly inviting interior that begs application of that classic bumper sticker: ‘If this van’s rockin’, don’t come knockin…'

The Tubik will be at the Frankfurt show later this month, and in case (like Riggers) you’re wondering if it’s really worth a spin on the PH homepage, I’ve got one word for you 'Hybrid'.

That means we can make up any performance figures we please, so let’s imagine it’s quicker than a VW bus with a twin-turbo Subaru lump. Sorted.

The front end makes it look like a character from Pixar's Cars.

I like France. I like French cars. I like Citroens. So why does this do nothing for me? confused

Can't work it out...

It would be interesting to see a modern production version of the H5. This is a bit too fussy though.

It does look very 'piggy'.

Could be fun if they tone down the silly rear arch and make it less sow-esque.

Is it because it's hideous?

There's a fine balance to be struck with custom vans between cool surf dude runaround and menacing soon-to-be-child-abductor from 80's TV movie... I'm not sure which way this falls.

Looks pretty cool, however the interior does look like its designed as some kind of "Internet F@#k Truck" with rear facing seats for the cameraman hehe

Lets hope it stays as a concept. The front is hideous.

No chance to rate this one?

Not sure about the success of the front, but it does update the original. The interior is good and I like the overall idea. Some idea of size would be helpful - how does it relate to a standard Transit?

I'm pretty sure I saw a documentary about that once...

It would be funny to have the stand next to them at the motorshow, and sell the aforementioned documentaries...

I like it, it's a little mad, and we need that from manufacturers like Citroen.

My first thought. Shame as I don't think it made it into the final edit of 'Cars 2'
