Hi guys,

Currently got a (1996) Impreza STi RA & fancy a change.

Only requirements are:

Fun to drive (plenty of twisty roads round here)
Generally reliable
Capable of taking a bit of abuse
4x4 would be good but not essential

Budget is around £4k

Got other cars for other purposes so this is strictly for taking out on a hoon to put a smile on my face.

Thinking about Audi S3, Clio 1*2, Robin hood/Locost 7 etc, Mini Cooper S, Megane 225 & even the 2000 onwards MR2.

Help me decide please guys thumbup

Keep it small and light would be my suggestion. If it is a pure hoon car/weekend car then I would get a Cooper (or an S if in budget) or a 172!!

4 litres of proper sense-of-occasion motoring right here...

Up for £4995 but you never know.

£4k will get you a decent 182 with cup packs, that would be my vote.

Should also add I had a 2001 S3 (only sold it 3 weeks ago) and whilst it was a great palce to be it did not really put a smile on my face (the VX220 I have now certainly does smile)

E36 M3 or Clio 172 Cup with change to spare ...... end of story.

The wedge above would be horrific when pushed on....

If it's just a fun hoon car, why would you even consider a hatchback? Get a roadster or something more special for the fun drives.

Mk3 MR2, that PH stalwart (MX5), MG TF etc.

Or, budget dependant, how cheaply could you build a Murtaya, given you already have the base car? Could be a fun project if you are so inclined, and you get a 4wd roadster out of it.

Far from it, Chims with newer suspension, Cerbs, Tuscans etc are fine but I found wedges to be not great to drive at any speed let alone pushing on.

Small Renaults are hard to match on a twisty B-road.

Mint condition late Mk2 MR2... lots of fun.

Integra Type-R if FWD is a contender... forget about the Clio, not in the same league.

This.

The M3 just shades it for me though.

If you can find anything else as fast, interesting and damn right mental as this, I'll be impressed.
