What is the most unreliable car you have owned?
Discussion
As title really, which car has given you the most problems, and at what point do you "throw in the towel"?
For me it had to be a mk1 mx5, I originally picked one up due to hearing nothing but positive on fun factor for little money and bulletproof reliabilty.
Unfortunately I didn't get to experience bullet proof reliabilty, the car gave nothing but problems with the biggest one being the short nose crank wobble which resulted in me paying for a new engine.
I got rid shortly after, (after peeing away the money spent on the engine).

Most serious thing to go wrong: I guess two Polos with the 1050 engine. One blew its head gasket 2 or 2 times. The other the engine just plain old packed up.
Most number of faults would be my current clio. But they're mostly minor. Or my MX5. Or the Cherokee I had that set fire to its brakes.

Most unreliable cars I've had are not what you may not expect.
1. ML430 - bought brand new in 2000 - within the first 10 days there was 18 faults with the car ranging from AirCon and Electric Seats packing up, rearview mirror falling off in my hand, severe rust on all seat frames and headrests. After much letter ranting I did get a refund on the car.
2. Nissan Bluebird (yes - the shame of it) - In one year I had the core plugs go 3 times before I gave up on the car completely. This car left me stranded with overheating problems so so many times.

erm not had any unreliable cars really but worst and most times dealer visited car was a 172
As well as reliabilty I meant problems too which I'd imagine your clio had if it was at the dealer often.I know some people associate reliabilty with breaking down, or not starting, but for me I associate constant problems as unreliable.
For me a reliable car will start every time I need it to, and need next to nothing replaced apart from consumables.
Range Rover P38, I owned it for nearly a year, it spent aprox 75% of that time in the shop being fixed, I even at one point bough another car to tide me over while it was away for the 100th time. I gave up and swapped it for an Evo 6 RS, that even running as a track car, proved to be a cheaper to own.
To give you an idea of how bad they are, the garage i used, used to give away stickers that said " I would rather push a Range Rover then drive a Jeep"

2004 106. 25 times in the dealer in the first 18 months. Exhaust needed replaced after 6 days (car was brand new). Brakes leaked fluid for months while waiting on a master cylinder to come in from France. Windscreen leaked. Constant conking out at traffic lights, eventually tracked down to dodgy O2 sensor after half of engine replaced by useless dealer.

POS cost me two control arms, two torques converters and a clutch plate and a brand new gearbox and numerous ball joints. It was starting to rust also..
I only covered 13,000 miles in the thing...
I vowed to never buy anther Mercedes let alone one built in South Africa.
Are they still building them out there???

1969 Rover P5B Coupe, looked lovely, but would overheat, eat gearboxes, starve itself of petrol and never get you to your destination. Sold it 6 months later as the exhaust was starting to blow. Terrible, terrible car. Checked on the DVLA site and it didn't seem to last much longer after it was sold.
The TVR Vixen, not so much unreliable, more like bringing up an autistic child over the years. Difficult.
