Video: The Impreza With The V10 Heart Transplant

Subaru gets BMW M5 V10 lump squeezed under its bonnet. Crikey

If there are two things that define a Subaru Impreza, it's that distinctive boxer throb, and four-wheel-drive. Well, the chap who created this car took those and threw them away.

Which sounds like insanity until you discover that, in lieu of flat four and four-wheel drive, is V10 and rear-wheel drive. E60 BMW M5 V10, to be precise. Nice.

This video was apparently one of the first test drives of the car, too - the car's creator obviously confident of his craftsmanship - and the BM-baru had yet to fulfil its power potential. Looks fast enough to us already...

Insanely great!

Sure there are easier ways to 500bhp, but this is sure a different one!

That's fantastic. Watching that is almost like watching a dubbed video!

Superb. I love the sound of a V10.

Needs 4wd though I reckon.

Great piece of engineering and from the outside, apart the sound, looks standard.

lol @BM-Baru biggrin
what a work, but not a bad idea, I mean those Subaru's are "cheap" to get but still good chassis I guess, so could be good for engine conversions?
a V8 from bmw would be a better fit I guess, also less expensive.
I wonder if it was a lot work with welding and engine mounts etc.

Am I missing the point .. The subaru should be 4wd, thats part of what makes it special. If you want a RWD V10 then why not get a BMW

I think he needs to secure his filler cap though...

I love a good sleeper, and this kinda falls under that group as well. It would have been better in an estate with a "Vet on board" rear sticker though.

The engine sounds really raw in the Impreza, but quite refined in the M5.

If you're quick enough, you'll.... Too late, it's gone.

I'd imagine that going from a 2 cylinder long engine, to a five cylinder long engine would have presented more than a few packaging problems and weight distribution issues.

I think this is a brilliant "because I can!" project, and its unfair to contemplate where the builder could have taken another route or direction ..... the fact that the car exists at all is good enough for me.

You could say that about the v12 C2, or even Red Victor 3, so you really didn't mean that, did you?...

Impressive feat! I think the fact that it is utterly pointless only makes it cooler.

Subtle title though!

Cooler than penguin piss - best looking Impreza without the misfire soundtrack (I never much cared for the boxer blob blob blob).

Hmmm take a M5 great car and an Impreza great car and uhhh put them together, well done great job
Why??? just because I supposesmile ….strange as the impreza's boxer engine has lower centre of gravity whereas the BMW is big and heavy
So there is a BMW M5 series body shell with a Subaru Impreza running gear with 4WD around somewhere??
One for the Odd box
