Bulges in tyre sidewalls - how do they occur?
(I assume they can't just appear whilst sitting in the spare wheel well in a car boot?)

If you bought an approved-used car from a main dealer, and 6 moths later (upon vieweing spare tyre for the first time) discovered that the spare had a bulge in the sidewall, are you within your rights to expect them to replace the tyre on the spare?

Over to you...

(Car is a 57 plate BTW)

Cant see them going for that

Who's to say you didn't clip the curb, swap the spare and then try it on with the dealer

Bulges occur because the reinforcing of the tyre is damaged - causing the rubber/compound to distort...

As it's been 6 months you'll have to prove the fault was there at the time of sale (inside 6 months they'd have to prove it wasn't).

Over to you...

Usual thing is pay for replacement, but have tyre sent back to manufacturer. If they agree there is a fault, they will refund. Worked with Pirelli tyres anyway.

Doesn't answer your question but I assume you have completely deflated it just in case?

Usually because one of the reinforcing bands inside the tyre has gone letting the rubber stretch under pressure.

Odd on a spare though.

Nothing I suppose, except for the fact it's the truth.

The wheel is immaculate but the tyre is clearly used (not by us).

Putting aside whether they believe me or not (pretend that I have spotted this on collecting the car at the dealership for the first time) - would it be acceptable for them to provide a spare in that condition?
