You need around another £1500 to be able to afford a car and insurance.
Really?! Guess I'll be waiting for a while then

Yep even if you get a KA which is insurance group 2 for around 500-700 quid you'll need atleast 2K to insure it, ask your parents to look into admiral multi car policies......very cheap indeed.
What sort of money are we talking with multi car? My parents currently have one with two cars (dad is paying about £250 for a 3.0 BMW 3 Series (which is what he paid last year for a 1.5 Kia Rio)) I'll have to look into that (with my either Panda 1.1 Active or Volvo S40 (old old old one))LukeSi said:

A vauxhall corsa will not be fun to drive. For cheap insurance and something a bit left field what about a kit car. Ive just bought a mk1 quantum coupe for £435 and £735 tpft 6000miles limited poicy with footman james with a discount as being a member with the quantum owners club. Ive just turned 19 so may be a bit more expensive but i dont think theres much init. Theres a couple on ebay now and again.
I'd not worry too much about fun to drive just yet, I realise peer pressure is hard. Just get something you can afford to buy and insure. You will in all likelihood bend some or all of it. For the first year or two resist the natural urges to prove to the world that you are infact the greatest driver ever and just pootle along preserving valuable NCB. Get a year or two no claims under your belt and things will start getting cheaper, unless the insurance companies move the goal posts. Again

There's no such thing as cheap insurance for a 17 year old at the moment, and there is a huge gap in prices between 17 and 19, no matter what car you go for, left field or not unfortunately. One Amp Andy said:

Im 19 know but the insurance was taken out when i was 18 with 1 year driving experiance but no ncb so i don't think it will be much more for a 17 year old its even on the quantum owners club regarding insurance its the cheapest around for any 17 year olds.
I'll have to look into that then. The cheapest quote I've had for my 17 year old son, on some of the sh*ttest cars you could possibly imagine, was around £3300. Have you tried going down the classic route? My little brother is 17 and passed his test few months ago, he got a 1.1 mk1 golf and it's £1000 fully comp with Footman James, you will have to ring up and get a quote, but they will most probably insure you. I think a classic Mini is cheaper than the Golf if you like them more.
Hope this helps

So I'll be best of sticking with my motorbike till I can save a bit more money?
Only you can answer that really. If you are working and have a regular income, then you might be able to pay the insurance monthly. If you are in education, I'd stick with your bike and blag lifts when it isn't biking weather. lloydmartin said:
