Now that I'm on track with what I quite want from my next car, my search led me to the above.

Looking at the engine spec, I'm guessing it's basically a Golf GTI in a more sedate 4dr dress??

Anyone had any experience with one?

Thanks.

Devoid of any sort of character, but comfortable and has a big boot.

They did a Jetta with the engine from the Mk5 Golf GTI. 197hp I think. No doubt vastly cheaper secondhand than an equivalent engined Golf as all Jetta's, Vento's and Bora's always seem to be.

Correct. Insurance approx 100 notes less a year a well.

Don't expect to be setting any land speed records.

just get an Octavia instead. 4 doors like the Jetta, but more practical and cheaper

Well I'd imagine it's going to hit sixty in under eight seconds and head onwards to somewhere near one forty. It's not McLaren F1 pace but this is a (relatively) inexpensive four door Volkswagen.

Well as you know it's a Golf with a boot and a cavernous one at that. Decent engine. You'll be happy with it after the Vectra that's for sure.

Are you talking about the new one or the old one? I'm guessing old as I didn't think the new had the TSI 1.4 engine, or should the title name be TDI? I saw a new one yesterday and I have to say it looks really good, better than the Golf to me (but I appreciate most Brits would prefer the hatch Golf). It was a Sport 140TDI DSG. It is made in Mexico and is supposed to be a bit cheaper inside than the Golf.

Definately TSI. 2.0 Turbo.

The 2.0 is named "TFSi". Might confuse some people, I don't know.

Was named, to be accurate. They dropped the F in the last year or so, to avoid confusion.
