Was making progress with a lovely GTR today when he brakes and I see blue lights of a BMW police car waiting in the lay by, as if ready to pull out and take me in for some friendly rape

The oh fk moment happened,

but thankfully he was there tending to a FFRR which had set on fire and was now a burnt out shell

What's your blue light oh fk moments?

Well, I'd just slowed down from 120 to 80 and straightened a roundabout, back on the throttle, when suddenly...........

Still, the officer was very nice to me.

Black Vectra, debadged, blacked out windows (pretty chavvy looking then) driving in the middle lane with an empty inside lane. I was driving behind, and was overcome with a feeling of self righteousness so closed the gap and was just about to flash the middle lane moron to get in the correct lane when the back lite up in flashing blue lights.

Oh crap, thought I, when the left indicator came on aswell. Both the car in front and I slowed and started heading to the hard shoulder, when a hand pops out of the Vectra and waves me on. Phew. Moral, treat everything as a potential unmarked car and don't be a sanctimonious t**t.

Late night hoon, came down to 30 in 30 off bypass and met a roadblock at a big roundabout. Thought the traffic car was after someone else until the helicopter that had been following me lit the bonnet of my car up.

Proper GTA moment.

Many moons ago, had dropped off my housemates and was heading back to the house as I had an early start the next day.

Saw a police car coming up at speed with lights and siren. Moved over to let it passed. He stopped behind me. Oh bugger I thought!

He thought I had turned around because I'd seen him and that was why I was pulling away form him... Never bloody saw him.

Made some 'progress' on the M4 a couple of weeks back. It was late with minimal traffic around. Had a glance in my mirror after passing a junction and I saw the tell-tale alternate flash of headlights some distance back and then the blues and twos.

With no junction to turn off for at least a few miles, I eased off and tucked into the inside lane, awaiting the inevitable...

The following car got closer and closer and I started to indicate into the hard shoulder, my stomach tying itself in knots. As I checked my mirror again, I was amazed to see that the car wasn't now behind me, but passing in the outside lane.

It was an Ambulance.

Was on a quiet part of the m6 up north doing close to 100 in the outside lane, wasn't paying attention until saw the flashing lights in my mirror very fast approaching, bricked myself, pulled in to the inside and he flew past... Obviously bigger fish to fry

Driving on the motorway, back when I was 18 or so. Tax had just expired but thought I'd push my luck for the day. Saw a police car join the motorway with lights on, driving ridiculously fast. Thought he can't seriously be coming to stop me at that speed so carried on as normal and held my breath. Police car got behind me, pulled out to overtake, then pulled back in again. Heart skipped a beat...then he pulled back out and carried on past me. Must have seen tax expired in ANPR or something but had somewhere more important to be.

Making serious progress on the M6, early on a sunday morning so pretty deserted. when I saw blue lights flashing in the distance. slowed down to about 90 thinking that if they were after me then 90 wouldn't have made a jot of difference.
Anyway, it went flying past me, must have had bigger fish to fry...

Had one last weekend...

I was designated driver last weekend. We leave the pub at around 22:30, making our way to town and I have a car full of drunks. 5 guys in total, 3 from work (one of which was in the boot) and 2 I didn't know. I've got the major panic on at the situation so getting a wiggle on. The guys are all pretty hyper and plenty pissed. Pass the local traffic car tucked away in the leisure centre junction. I'm doing 40 in a 30, brakes on and all is well. Then one of the guys from work starts giving the police car the finger and generally waving like a tit. Blue lights on, 'step out of the car, sir'. I get breathalysed and a big lecture - took it on the chin. Was fair enough! Thankfully, the guys managed to keep quiet for 10 minutes.

So, I park up in town - still completely stting myself - and everyone jumps out of the car. Turns out the 2 guys I didn't know, one was only 17 and the other had drugs on him. Wasn't best pleased.

Late night, came up behind a dawdling Ford Galaxy. Went for the overtake and then the blue light WTF moment!

Luckily he just gave me some stern advice, chatted about my car and let me on my way.

Ford Galaxies are now illogically treated by me like those red SO19 BMW 5 Series.

Drove home from my mates at around 7pm without an exhaust (at all, just the flex pipe). Pulled off the motorway and saw a police car parked at the roundabout, looking at me in disbelief. Lights went on, sphincter tightened...and he turned off and roared up the motorway.

Must have just had a call right at that second.

Last summer I overtook a lorry and a car on a country A road and had picked up a bit of speed as the road ahead was empty. I came over the brow of a hill and there was a police car, driving head on in my lane and pointing me into a layby. Turns out they were diverting all traffic off the road as they were escorting military jets to one of the Lincolnshire airbases. I got that hot burn then cold sweat as I thought I must have passed a speed trap.

Quite a few but not necesarily blue lights.

1) Test driving my mates new Probe company car I was going very fast coming off the M876 on to the M9 eastbound. Checked the mirrors and blindspot and they were clear so changed into L3 to pass the car in L2 before intending to cross back into L1 to take the next exit about a mile up the road.

While passing the car in L2 a cursory glance in the rear view showed a liveried T5 Volvo which made my sphincter go like a rabbit's nose! I had NO idea where it came from!

I backed off the throttle down to a more reasonable rate and he followed me until the exit then pulled alongside, gave me a wave and shot off with his bonnet in the air. (Nice one guys, thanks!! thumbup )

2) 11:30pm southbound on the M5 one Sunday night last Feb'. I had the cruise set to a lot of mph and was conscious of lights in the distance behind me while I overtook the tanker in L1.

I retired to L1 and the lights pulled up in my blindspot in L2 and stayed there for a bit. I didn't back off as I figured I was 'done' whatever I did.

After a minute or two they took off. I couldn't see if they gesticulated as it was dark but, thumbup , thanks to you to!! wink

So there I was, doing immediate ban-speeds down a rather empty M40. It was a lovely day and you could see for miles in each direction. Making good progress in the middle lane (nothing around - keeping central in the road), I notice two cars with flashing blue lights in my mirror driving up behind me with an extremely fast closing speed. Obviously I let the throttle off completely (to coast down to a reasonable speed) and kept it at a steady 75 and moved into the inside lane. These two cars which at this point had also both pulled into the inside lane started to make me worry a little - had I missed a van on a bridge or something?

Anyway, we're approaching a junction and just after that junction, there's a little area to pull in off the hard shoulder. So, that's my plan - pull into there and see what happens.

Both cars are now right up my arse - I can see the 300 yard board now and I'm starting to get more than a tad concerned.

Suddenly both cars pull into the middle lane, nail it, overtake me and bugger off up the slip road.

I breathed a sigh of relief, added an extra 10mph and drove home thanking my lucky stars!!
