What cheap estate?
Discussion
The 330d is going, Monaro will be collected this week. I am now on the lookout for a cheap estate for the daily grind. The requirements are -
<£2000, cheaper the better
30mpg+
Big boot (couple of mountain bikes without taking wheels off)
Reliable
Can tow up to 1500kg (not a dealbreaker as I can borrow a Landcruiser when required)
So far I've spotted various 2l Mondeos, Passat tdi's, a V70 2.5d and a 523i. Most of the diesel options I've seen at this price have been to the moon and back so tempted to go petrol.
Thanks in advance for any inspiration

Diesels are capable of going to the moon and back. Get one bought.<£2000, cheaper the better

They are also equally capable of lunching turbos/injectors/high pressure fuel gubbins etc.I have nothing against diesels but they are far from indestructable, if £1500 will get me a diesel with 180k or a petrol with 90k it'll have to be a very immaculate diesel

Any £2000 or less car stands a reasonable chance of something breaking or wearing out. Not worth getting hung up over IMO. (As does any car at any price as far as I can tell, by anyway).
Go and look at ones near you and buy the tidiest/biggest/fastest whatever you fancy. The one that feels right to you. Don't count anything out and keep an eye on forecourts as you go past and anything with a "for sale" stuck inside the window.
I like to see some service history if possible.... a pile of receipts/bills is good enough.
