So they're adding an average of £30....yet premiums go up how much in percentile terms again?

What's the average premium now? About £1000 so it's 3%....where's the rest of it coming from?

I make a point of avoiding Birmingham and Bradford anyway. hehe

Bradford is the only place I've been to where they have to employ a guy to stand watch over customers cars directly opposite and in full view of the restaurant you're eating in.

Is there anything which Bradford and Birmingham have in common to drive this interesting statistic?

It doesn't say that uninsured drivers are the main reason for the increases, you've been involved in enough insurance threads recently to know examples of other reasons for increases.

I don't believe the comment in there that one in ten 18 to 34-year-old drivers is unaware that car insurance is a legal requirement.

However I never cease to be amazed by young people who honestly seem to think they can drive any vehicle because they're named on their Mum or Dad's policy.

I know, merely venting - surprised they say it is such a low amount though, or rather openly admitting it is a low amount.

I means the problem of high premiums are caused by people working within the law.

Certainly the Bradford thing is old old news. This has been known for at least 3 years to my knowledge.

nothing will change habits until
1. greater chance of being caught - ANPR and the downright annoying catchall DVLA initiative should help with this
2. the differential between the punishment and the cost of insurance is closer

So why do they not just setup a police / DVLA check point in those areas and start randomly pulling cars in over a 2 week period, and spot fining those unable to produce the right paperwork? Surely that'd start making people pull their fingers out?

You think anpr would do anything?

None of the uninsured cars will be registered correctly with the owners address on the V5.

It's been suggested that they haven’t as they will be accused of targeting a single ethnic demographic and would therefore be a breach somebody’s human rights . . .innit!

because if they did and stopped all the uninsured locals it would make their arrest records seem racist.
