AN interesting question (jobs)
Discussion
So here is the scenario.
Currently you commute 100 miles a day and get a good salary but the bonus rarely pays out and when it does its of a low value ad max of 20%. Big corp company too which is struggling with an historic share price with many cuts being made.
Or for 25% less basic but a 1-2 mile commute on open countryside with the only congestion possible being waiting for a bus.. Also it is a very good company with huge growth potential and makes lovely desirable products/market leading. Its bonus is 35% and it appears to be making full payment of this bonus year on year, it is privatly owned also. Plus stock options.
In addition the role would be a more junior role to my current position in that someone doing that role currently reports into myself.
Other aspectsto consider - having our first very soon and wife & I have decided she will not be going bac to work until the child is in school. Also if you get in now it would be a great time to join as it will grow and you will be very senior/there from the start.
Its very interesting & a financial what to do.

Personally, work life balance to me is essential, if you can still have a good quality of life on the smaller salary (but bigger bonus so guessing it evens out to basic at least) and spend less time/money on commuting it's a no brainer for me. A growing company, more junior position but greater prospects, less commuting stress, more time with the little one - I wish I could have the same

If you can afford your lifestyle on the lower paid job, I'd go for that.
As this is in General Gassing (for now...) what are the car choices involved?
Well I could happily dispose of the 330d as economy would be unrequired. As this is in General Gassing (for now...) what are the car choices involved?

So what car would fit the bill for a 1-2 mile commute? Porche push bike Bike?
Sounds like similar money for a more junior role. Great, so when you get to your current role, you expect be earning more?
Also the tone of your OP makes me think you have already made up your mind to leave.
My son is 15 months old now, and being self employed allows me to spend lots of quality time with him. I would want a 100% pay rise to go and work full time hours away from home now. Time is the most valuable thing you can give anyone, so to be able to give it to your children makes me feel very lucky indeed.
The only downside I can see sounds like job security. Only you are best placed to assess this.

OP. I have just been through this, but slightly reversed (in as far as I was at a small company, but paid pretty well & moved to a larger company for not quite so much money).
For me, 100% of the decision comes down to quality of life & quality of time spent with my family.
When I was at the small company, I spent 3 out of every 5 weeks in Asia & really didn't see my lad grow up for 2 years. It's lovely now, being able to pick him up from school & know that I will see him every weekend.
As we're in GG, surely a TVR or FFRR S/C is the only way to go?

This sums it up for me.
